The mini dairy goat is a group of dairy breeds that are being made by combining the standard dairy goat with the nigerian dwarf dairy goat to produce a smaller version of the dairy breed. You always use the standard breed doe with a nigerian buck so that you do not run into issues with the doe having kids that are to big for her to deliver. The goal of these pairings are to produce all the qualities of the standard breed in a smaller size. One thing that is easily confused is the generations of the kids that come out of these breedings.
The chart above gives a visual of what happens when you pair your standard breed dairy goat with the nigerian dwarf. (remember for the first generation you always want the larger breed to be the doe and the buck to be the nigerian dwarf). The generation of kid is always one step higher than the lowest generation of the parent. So if your buck is an F6 and your doe is a F1, then your kids will only be a F2. |
